PROGRESS AND SOME CONCERNS REGARDING HORIZON 2020
The conclusions of the Council of the European Union on Horizon 2020 described it as "essential for economic growth and social inclusion" and ensured that R&D partnerships should be based on the principles of added value, transparency, openness and impact and that Open Science has "a crucial role in promoting the impact and transparency of R&D, and in uniting society and science.” In spite of all this, multiple organizations show concern because we did not see that the criteria of public interest were sufficiently promoted in the European Union and its future R&D programs.
That is why we wrote this letter, celebrating the progress achieved and asking different commissioners, among other measures, to guarantee return of public investment in biomedical R&D in the Commission's next proposal for the FP9 (the future H2020).
